History of Our Festival
1987 was the first year of the Lions Club Balloon Festival and Fair, in Highland Village, Texas, with two balloon flights scheduled during the one day event. With the help of the North Texas Ballooning Association, there were a total of eighteen balloons involved. The festival, with twenty five craft booths, drew an estimated two thousand people.
2016 was the 30th Annual Highland Village Lions Balloon Festival. It was, and is, a three day event with live bands, other entertainment, a Poster Contests, food, beer, wine, and craft vendors, as well as a Kids Zone, with inflatables and a petting zoo. There were a total of 18 hot air balloons providing us with glows each evening and launches each morning, and one tethered balloon. Finally, unique to our festival, we provided vision screenings throughout the festival. The Highland Village Lions Club Balloon Festival, at Unity Park, in Highland Village, Texas, has grown to be the largest scheduled event in Denton County with approximately 16,000-18,000 people attending in 2016.
